Landing in Rome renting a car with wife, 3 yr old daughter and mother in law. We love been to Tuscany before and I lived in Florence previously. This trip we are headed to Orvieto for 2 nights straight from Rome then we have 4 days in Tuscany and want to stay in Val D Orcia but is 4 days too long? Last 2 days of our trip are in Rome then back to Los Angeles. Arriving Oct 4th. Thank you
I’m glad to help with some suggestions for your last minute trip to beautiful Tuscany.
Orvieto is beautiful! While there you may visit Civita di Bagnoregio, one of the most suggestive and peculiar ancient hill towns of Italy.
Val d’Orcia is so beautiful and full of beautiful things to see that in my opinion 4 days are not too long. You can also use the Val d’Orcia as a base to visit many other great destinations in Tuscany, like Siena, Monteriggioni, and San Gimignano among others. At the and of this article, at point 4, there are some suggestions on what to visit from Montepulciano in Val d’Orcia.
Of course in case you think some places like San Gimignano (about 1 hour and half from Val d’Orcia) and other villages more north of Siena are a bit too far for a day trip, you may consider spending another night in Siena or also in the area of San Gimignano.
Do not hesitate to contact me again for any other tip,
Enjoy your stay,
elena from Florence
