We will be in Rome for three days, then plan to go to Orvieto/Montepulciano and stay the night there. The next day day we will do the loop Pienza/Montalcino/Bagno/Sant Antimo. Is that loop too much in one day? Then we will go to the Siena area and find a base. One day will be spent there, one day Chianti. Then one day Volterra/San Gimignano. I would love to add Lucca/Cinque Terre. How many days would this take? Best way to do that from San Gimignano/Siena or Chianti base. We will need to fly to Paris after these visits. Where is the best place to do this? (with 50 lb luggage)?
I also wonder if we need to drive all week or could we return the car in Siena at some point. From there could we do a tour to Lucca/CT and then a driver through Chianti that could drop us at the airport in Florence? All just thoughts, need some detailed direction.
Sorry for the delay, hope my answer it’s not too late. For your first day after Rome, ok for the beautiful Orvieto and Montepulciano.
For the next day, Pienza, Bagno Vignoni, Montalcino and Sant’ Antimo, can actually be done in one day. Pienza and especially Bagno Vignoni are small villages, while the Abbey of Sant Antimo is very near Montalcino, as Daniel said.
Ok for the rest of your planned itinerary apart from Lucca and the Cinque Terre, that cannot be done in one day. I would suggest basing in San Gimignano, and one day go visit Lucca and then proceed to the Cinque Terre where I would spend one night.
If you think that traveling by cat all the time is tiring you can opt for a driver, though I would use the car myself and drop it off at the airport,
Let me know if you need any more help,
elena

Pienza, (don't miss) Monticchiello, Montalcino and Sant'Antimo (just 5 minutes from there) and then Bagno Vignoni would be a tuff day but possible. One day in Chianti OK: with you car will be OK.One day Volterra, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni OK with you car.Lucca and Cinque terre in one day will be a mission impossible also because at Cinque Terre you should make the Love Walk.Would suggest to use your car and give it back at airport: will be much cheaper!Hope this can help.Buon viaggio! Daniel.
