Hello. I am planning a trip to Italy in May with my husband. After an 11 day escorted tour, we will be taking a train to Puglia region, then driving the Amalfi Coast. After Naples we would like to drive to Tuscany, find a place to stay near one of the hilltop towns and do day trips around the region. Where would be a central spot with beautiful views? We are planning on a 3 night stay, then will end our vacation with a few days in Cinque Terre. Any itinerary assistance would be so helpful! Thank you. Rachel, Oregon, USA
Thanks a lot for asking my help in planning your Italian tour
When touring around by car, I generally recommend using Siena and its idyllic countryside as a base to explore the region and make fantastic day trips. You can base in the immediate surroundings of Siena, or abit more south of it, in the stunning Val d’Orcia area; all places offer beautiful views.
As you’re coming to Tuscany from Naples, you may find this post about traveling from Rome to Tuscany quite useful and interesting.
Take a look at my posts, and for any other suggestion, I’ll be happy to help,
Elena from Florence
