a week trip to Tuscany

Anonimo asked 9 anni ago
Two couples planning a week or so trip to Tuscany. We want to stay in Florence for a couple of nights at beginning of our trip and then want to drive through Tuscany. I would like your recommendations on 2/3  towns to stay in that would work best as a base to visit wineries and enjoy the area,. Also, would you recommend driving from Florence ourselves or taking a train to our first destination and renting a car there? The goal would be to drive to each property we are staying at and see the local area and do easy day trips each day. We are open to staying in a  town or a great property in between towns with great access. Important things to us are– great local experiences, dining, visiting wineries, charming towns,. Any help is appreciated.

Hello,
Thanks for your question.
A week in Tuscany is the right time to enjoy the region’s best sights. After your visit to the beautiful Florence, head south with your car to enter the famous Chianti region; fine wines, vineyards, forests, castles, green landscape and charming villages. I like Castellina in Chianti or the area surrounding Greve in Chianti, they can serve as a great base to make day trips. Don’t miss San Gimignano, stunning village with towers west of Chianti and Monteriggioni, made unique by its massive circle of walls.
Then move south to reach Siena, wonderful medieval art town that can be great as your second base to move further south to explore the amazing Val d’Orcia, the area of Tuscany I prefer, with a unique countryside, a lot of wineries, stunning hill towns, incredible food.
I remain at your disposal,
Elena
