Hello there!
I love your website. I stumbbled on it by chance (looking for chic hotels…). It helped me a lot in planning our annual family vacation.
We are a family of four (daughter 21 and son 15). we will be renting a car in Florence and spending 3 nights in Mormoraia and and another 3 nights in Osteria Dell’Orcia before heading to Rome for our final 3 nights.
I was wondering if you had any suggestions on the trip – are the two locations too close to each other? is it worth making a day trip to the beach (Castiglioncello)? a hot air balloon ride? is the Trasimeno lake worth a visit with such a tight schedule?
Thank you in advance.
Nabil
Really many thanks for your nice words! I’m very happy that my website helped in planning your family vacation And I see you’ve read my post on Castiglioncello.
All the things you mention, from going to Castiglioncello, to trying hot air ballooning, to visiting the Trasimeno Lake are worth doing!
You could enjoy a day at the seaside reaching Castiglioncello as a day trip from Mormoraia in San Gimignano. The journey will take around 1 hour and 40 minutes so it can be done! If your family like swimming it could be an idea! The Baia del Quercetano in Castiglioncello, near the center, is beautiful. I usually go to Bagni Italia; only note that to reach the beach you have to go down through some stairs and then go up again
The two locations you’ve chosen to stay are ok, here are the day trips you can make from San Gimignano, while at the end of this post are the ones you can enjoy while at the Osteria dell’Orcia in Val d’Orcia. You might still visit the Trasimeno Lake from the Osteria in around 1 hour, and possibly stop to visit the beautiful Montepulciano on your way.
There’s really a lot to see and do in Tuscany! Also take your time and do what you most like
Please feel free to ask any other question!
Happy Planning!
