hi Elena am in Milan until 9 June and from 10-14 June want to plan a trip to southern Tuscany val d’orcia region. Could you design an itinerary including TRANPORT from Milan, the best base to explore the region, places to stay, must do’s and getting around. I will be travelling solo so I fo on group excursions in the area would be useful. Many thanks sapna
I’m glad to help!
As far as transport, from Milan take a fast train (Frecciarossa) to Florence, here you can check for train schedules. If you’ve never visited Florence before you may spend there some time to enjoy all its beauty, including its fashionable shops!
From Florence take a train to reach Siena, the amazing hill town of the Palio race. Siena is again a city to be visited also only by taking a stroll through its characteristic medieval streets. You may even make Siena your home base or consider basing directly in the striking Val d’Orcia region. In any case, from Siena I would rent a car to move around if it’s possible; that’s the best way to move around here.
In case you are not renting a car, then you can take advantage of the day tours organized from the agency Palio Tours, located right in Siena. If you go for Siena, I recommend the lovely Campo Regio Relais.
In case you have your car, then make Bagno Vignoni or Pienza your base. I love Bagno Vignoni, discover why here! La Locanda del Loggiato is a great place to stay.
As for the things to do and see, Val d ‘Orcia really offers many! Also check here for additional ideas.
Feel free to contact me again,
elena from Florence
