My wife & I will be traveling to Italy in Sept 2016 with my brother and his wife. We will be part of a tour group for 12 nights that concludes in Milan. We plan to spend the next 8 or 9 nights exploring Tuscany using Siena as our base of operations. For right now, I have two questions for you:
1. What is the best way to get from Milan to Siena? Please be as specific as you can.
2. Once we get to Siena, what tour companies can you recommend that can take us into Chianti, Montalcino, Pienza, Assisi, Perugia, etc?
Thank you very much!!!
Very gratefully,
Don Nardone
Thanks a lot for your message.
Great choice using the fantastic Siena as your base, from there you’ll be able to do countless day trips.
Here the answers to your questions:
1. The best way to get to Siena from Milan: first, tae a fast train (Frecciarossa) from Milano Centrale train station to Firenze santa Maria Novella station. This is the official website to check train timetables, choose the option “Frecce” when doing your query. Once at Florence station you can reach Siena either by train or by bus, I suggest taking the bus of the SITA company, that is direct and drop you off right in Siena’s center, check here for bus timetables from Florence to Siena.
2. Palio Tours is a good company based in Siena that organizes tours across Tuscany.
Let me know if I can be of any further help,
elena from Florence
