We will be in Tuscany from Oct 7 to Oct 18th. Our plan is to take day trips from Lucca as we will sleep in Lucca. Since we don’t know what to visit in every town, we need help planning what towns to visit on the same day trip. We know we will have to return to the same area on another day, but don’t mind. We fly out of Bologna on 9/20, so any suggestions to visit on those 2 days on the way to Bologna will be appreciated. Thank you!
Thanks for contacting me.
I love Lucca and its province! Nearby Lucca I suggest you visit Collodi, charming little village where you may visit Villa Garzoni and its beautiful garden, Barga, another beautiful hill town, And then also the thermal town of Montecatini Terme, Pescia, and Pistoia. You may visit 2 towns a day.
Among the most popular sights of Tuscany, I recommend visiting Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, and Volterra.
For scenic and typical Tuscan countryside head to Chianti or Val d’Orcia; if you don’t mind driving a bit longer.
On your way to Bologna you may stop and visit the charming area north of Florence, known as Mugello.
Feel free to contact me again,
Have a nice stay,
elena
Mu favorite restaurants in Lucca are Gli Orti di Via Elisa, serving great local food and wine; and the elegant Ristorante il Giglio.
Enjoy your vacation!
