Congratulations you on your wonderful blog site. You obviously love your part of the country very much and from what I have read, this is not surprising! – well done!
My wife and I will be visiting Italy in September and plan on leaving from Rome to spend about 5 days seeing Tuscany and Florence before going to Venice.
Could you possibly suggest some form of an itinerary – ie would you hire a car in Rome, explore Tuscany and then finally spend time in Florence before leaving for Venice or how would you do it
We like exploring the countryside and smaller places that are not quite as touristy – ie places like Pisa are not essential.
. Both of us also love ( maybe too much) Italian wine and food!
So suggestions of where to go day by day and where to stay as well as how to fit Florence in ( and for how long would be most appreciated)

The way from Rome through Tuscany and to Florence is very intriguing and has lots of things to see! You might stop to see incredible sights like Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio and then proceed to Tuscany passing through the scenic area known by the name of Val d’Orcia, the quintessential image of Tuscany for its unique rolling hills. Smaller places that are not quite as touristy abound in the area, as in the Crete Senesi and in Chianti.

You could spend 3 or 4 nights touring Tuscany before getting to Florence where I’d spend 1 or 2 nights before heading to the fantastic Venice. One or 2 nights may be spent in Val d’Orcia and another one near Siena or in Chianti.
