Ciao Andre,
The area surrounding Montepulciano is wonderful and offers lots to do, especially as you love biking and walking!
You will really enjoy your time
Montepulciano itself is one of the most charming and beautiful towns in Tuscany; its ancient historic center has wonderful buildings, lovely squares, good restaurants, and breathtaking views all across the splendid Tuscan countryside.
Just few kilometers east of Montepulcinao you find Cortona and the Trasimeno Lake. All this area is extremely beautiful and the perfect place for biking lovers. Cortona raises on the top of a hill and enjoys a incredible vast panorama. The Trasimeno Lake is a very suggestive place where to eat great food!
As Montepualciano is near Cortona, take a look at this article where I speak about the best day trips to make from Cortona, great spot to explore both Tuscany and Umbria. In addition, at the end of this blog post dedicated to a 2 weeks itinerary in Tuscany, you will find some tips on using Montepulciano as a base to visit Tuscany.
If you move west Montepulciano, you are in another stunning part of Tuscany, the Natural Park of the Orcia Valley; gentle hills, characteristic towns atop hills, abbeys, castles, and curving country roads. The landscape is unforgettable.
The villages of Pienza, Bagno Vignoni, and Montalcino are must see! This is also the area where to go for wine tastings, the Nobile of Montepulciano and the Brunello of Montalcino are among the finest wines of Italy.
Also take the chance to visit Siena, medieval town with lots of things to see and do!
For any other suggestion do not hesitate to contact me again,
