What is the best place to stay in Tuscany with kids and parents in summer for 3 weeks with beaches and historical cites nearby?

We’ ll be traveling to Italy in July and August with kids (8 & 11 years old) as well as my parents in their 60th. Part of the trip we’ll be traveling all together, but for 3 weeks my parents will be staying with the kids by themselves. Would like to hear your recommendation on the ideal base destination for then that will have some beaches nearby (sea or lake), some nature and historical cites and will have a choice of interesting short day trips.
Thank you so much for our help.

Hi! thanks for writing
Tuscany has a wonderful seacoast and there are quite many great places with beaches and beautiful cities nearby that can be great to stay with children.
Here are my suggestions for the best places to stay for families with children in Tuscany:
Viareggio: on the northern coast of Tuscany Viareggio has sandy beaches, great bathing facilities, a lot of attractions for children as well as for adults. It’s near the beautiful art towns of Lucca and Pisa, both at 20 minutes by train, while Florence is at 1 hour and half train. Pietrasanta is a lovely town famous for its marble workers. Livorno, nice town on the coast with a beautiful promenade, is at 40 minutes away by train. Another interesting historical city nearby is Pistoia, while Montecatini Terme is renowned for its thermal baths.
Castiglione della Pescaia: set on the southern coast of Tuscany, Castiglione della Pescaia is a characteristic fishing village, great for families. Its sandy beach has crystal clear waters and has great bathing establishments. From there you can make day trips to Punta Ala on the coast, the historical Grosseto, the wonderful Massa Marittima, but also Scansano, Magliano in Toscana, Capalbio, and the beautiful Natural Park of the Maremma. The suggestive Monte Argentario is just at 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.
Here is a list of the most beautiful Tuscan beaches, from north to south.
