In March I had a wonderful relaxing vacation at the ancient thermal village of Bagno Vignoni, south of Siena, in the hearth of Tuscany. I was looking for a peaceful quiet place where to rest for some days and that was the perfect choice!
The volcanic origins of the Monte Amiata in Val d’Orcia gave birth to many thermal springs, like indeed Bagno Vignoni and Bagni di San Filippo. The reinvigorating springs of Bagno Vignoni were enjoyed since Roman times and Lorenzo Il Magnifico Medici and Saint Catherine from Siena were famous regular visitors. This hot water is curative for skin diseases, bones and mucous membranes. The waters rise from a depth of 1000 metres at 52 degrees, flowing into a magnificent rectangular pool of the 16th century, that occupies all the square; the steam hanging over the bath creates a dream-like atmosphere.
Right facing this ancient renaissance thermal pool, there’s a lovely hotel of great charm and quality where you can really benefit from these thermal waters, wellness treatments and spa services. Hotel Le Terme is a comfortable 3 star hotel with very comfortable rooms and a great restaurant serving local tuscan dishes. The unspoiled nature of Valdorcia that surrounds this village and the natural thermal springs are the ideal context to take a journey where body and mind will be the same thing.
